SEASONAL PRACTICE – AYURVEDIC YOGA

March 18, 2018

$125.00

In this workshop:

  • Discover your unique doshic-constitution acording to ayurveda.
  • Develop a practice that seasonally balances your doshas.
  • Learn self-care routines that include nutritional practices and herbal remedies.

Yoga and Ayurveda are paired practices that originated in India thousands of years ago.  Many are not as familiar with Ayurveda but might have heard about it in conjunction with yoga.  Ayurveda is a personalized, intuitive health philosophy.

According to Ayurvedic principles, each person has a unique constitution governed by  physical and emotional makeup, as well as by lifestyle.  These constitutions are called doshas, and are linked to the elements. Knowing our doshas and how to balance them can help us customize our yoga practice for maximum results.

Vata.   mentally quick, enjoys movement and is creative.  Imbalances are insomnia, anxiety, and dryness. For those who might be experiencing vata imbalance, a slow, steady, grounding practice made up of mountain pose, spinal  twists, inversions—as well as deep, calm breathing will cultivate stillness and calm.

Pitta.   passion, enthusiasm, and courage; on the flip side, anger, competitiveness, and imflammation are a sign of imbalance.  Pitta needs to practice cooling, relaxing postures to release heat and tension, such as forward bends, as well as heart-openers, such as bow and camel. This encourages compassion, patience, and the ability to slow down.

Kapha.   consistent, devoted, stable, and strong,  Kapha imbalance includes procrastination, dullness, and congestion, so stimulating movement such as sun salutations and vigorous breathing exercises foster enthusiasm, heat, and focus.
