Fall Ayurvedic Yoga
BACK & BELLY November 10, 2024 - Sunday 2:00PM to 3:15PMThe Fall Ayurvedic Yoga classes are designed as a stand-alone, self-care practices. Each class provides practices that balance vata dosha, reducing stiffness, and bringing stability to the body. Ayurveda has a theory that says that we’re all made up of ten pairs of qualities, called gunas, that describe everything in the universe, including thoughts and emotions. These qualities come in pairs of opposites, like heavy and light, soft and hard, and hot and cold. Gunas affect dosha, which is a key term in ayurveda that means “fault” or “defect.”
Ayurvedic theory says that gunas are always changing and when they get out of balance, they turn into dosha, which causes discomfort or disease. Vata is the air and space dosha, and it’s linked to the gunas of cold vs. hot, hard vs soft, dark vs light, etc.
Vata gets stronger in the Fall because the weather is cooler and the days are shorter. We all know how our bodies feel in the Fall when it’s cold and dark outside. Our bodies get stiffer, and we can feel less grounded. Yoga, when practiced according to ayurvedic principles, is a remedy that balances the gunas and calms the vata dosha.
Back, internal belly muscles and fascia are your core stabilizers. Imbalanced muscle tension can put pressure on the spinal column affecting nerve function.
Whenever nerve function is compromised, pain can result. In ayurveda, pain is the primary indicator of deranged or excess vata.
This class addresses vata imbalances and can be taken as a stand alone, self-care class or as a series completing a whole body home practice.
